Sussex Music Radio Meet the Artists

My band Boxtape are a two piece indie/folk duo from Horsham, West Sussex, and we released our debut single “Fancy Objects” on the 8th December. We’re looking for radio stations to play it / review it and we thought Sussex Music Radio might be interested?

Please find a link to download our track “Fancy Objects” (it was too big to attach). I’ve also included a load of info about us below. If there is something you need which isn’t there please let me know!

Describing themselves as “The XX & Daughter making love to a Lexicon reverb while playing acoustic guitar” Boxtape fuse the serious and silly, the alluring and the aggressive to bring forth lush space filled indie folk theater.
Boxtape are an indie guitar duo from the sleepy leafy town of Horsham, Sussex. They have just launched their first YouTube series which focuses on live studio performances, as well as getting releasing their debut single “Fancy Objects” in December 2016.
Created by Melody Girl and Circuit Boy (aka Kat Ward & Kieren Johnstone) Boxtape is less than a year old but these two have been an abundant songwriting duo for the last 12 years. Taking everything they’ve learned and condensing it down to a stripped-back potent form, Boxtape will take you distances.

Danny Mortimer

Danny is a Singer/Songwriter and Guitar player from Elgin, Scotland who has been playing with local bands for nearly 10 years now.
He first picked up a Guitar not long after finishing High School, after attending a Red Hot Chili Pepper conecert and being amazed at how incredible a live show the band (and more notably ex-Chili Pepper guitar player John Frusciante) put on.
Buying his first Electric Guitar, he learned a handful of chords and songs before joining his first band. He has played guitar in various bands (playing both Original material and Covers) since first starting out, playing many different styles of music (from pop to punk, rock to heavy metal) learning from the other musicians around him and enjoying being part of a group.
After deciding to part ways with his latest band, Danny began writing more music with the plan of making his solo debut.
Taking influence from one of his idols Jim Adkins (of Jimmy Eat World) and his series of EP’s he released on his own accord, Danny began working towards his first six-song release, recording all the instruments himself (apart from the drums). With the first single “Stay With Me” having had radio airplay and a music video being released, positive reviews were starting to come in.
The follow up single “Waiting”, is an upbeat melodic Guitar based Track with a very catchy chorus. The accompanying Official Music Video was released in October of 2016, showing retrospective footage from his gigs played in the past.

I hope this is alrite. Anything else you require please let me know

The High Wire Act
The High Wire Act are a band who are in the process of recording our 2nd self financed album, and have just finished our last spate of gigs which took us to The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, Exeter, Bristol and The Victorious Festival on Southsea Common.

The music they play is distinctive from many of the other unsigned bands in the area, they are representative of bands such as Suede, The Smiths, David Bowie et al, where as too many of their peers in the local area are concentrating on either tribute acts and SKA

Cardboard HIT’ are a Mongrel of a band formed in East Sussex.

Singer bass player Ross Towner is from North London, whilst guitarist, Lee Hayes, was brought up in Runcorn, Cheshire. The Drummer, Matt Rouse, is the only home grown East Sussex contingent in this nomadic three piece.

These three friends are very different characters indeed but have morphed into a tight unit producing their own take on stripped down “garage rock”, combining unique vocal harmonies with slick heavy grooves and riff based hooks

‘Cardboard Hit’ do not fit into the box of ‘rock mediocrity’ that they shall surely have to represent, but something tells me…they’re quite happy with this.

Cardboard hit recently signed to big village records at the beginning of March 2015 I and with four great singles out on iTunes, amazon, HMV digital, goggle play and spotify and what with the air play on BBC radio last year and their interest from Sirius xfm radio in New York this year it’s gonna be a busy year for them.

You tube – latest single video “all the voices”

Their debut EP ‘Subject to Status’ brings to mind their obvious influences such as ‘Rage Against the machine’ or ‘Nirvana’, but with songs like their new single ‘Bobby’ or the heavy foot stomper ‘All The voices’, they have been described under a whole new genre aptly coined ‘Disco Grunge’ by their growing followers.

Play them loud, and preferably have a dirty stinking dance floor somewhere close.

Available for live performances, showcases, touring, support or head line events, photo shoots, press launches, TV and film productions, radio interviews and so much more …. Ps look for us in the new British film hitting the cinemas this called the pro … We’re on the soundtrack and there’s a band cameo here and there too in the film !!

The Wondersmiths are a five-piece from Luton and Brighton with a modern take on early brit-pop, fused with high energy indie-electro.

The Wondersmiths have played at high-profile venues including Scala (King’s Cross), Camden’s Barfly, Camden Underworld, Purple Turtle, O2 Academy Islington, as well as performing at Camden Nightmare Festival.
In 2013 the band reached the final of the MMG Battle of the Bands competition held at Marshall Amplification HQ Theatre, and they were subsequently signed to The Animal Farm record label. Most recently, in January 2016, The Wondersmiths’ ‘Side By Side’ has been played on national TV in the UK, and has been selected as a BBC Introducing track of the week.

Since forming on New Year’s Day January 2015, MISS have written,
recorded and released their debut EP (‘Do You Feel Electric?’) to
across-the-board critical acclaim, established themselves as an
unmissable live act, gathered a snowballing fan base and written an
album’s worth of new material. All rather impressive for being
together for just over a year…

Their debut single ‘Smokescreen’ was released to rave reviews, which
appreciated their unique approach to soundscapes, song structure and
melody that results in them being hard to categorise outside of
sounding like ‘MISS’. If you listen to the single you will see how
starts out as an exciting rock anthem soon descends into a sultry,
dark R & B territory. And it’s done seamlessly.

You can listen to Smokescreen here:

And read a review at the link below:

Sound of The Week #7 | MISS – SmokeScreen

The EP ‘Do You Feel Electric?’ was entirely written, performed,
produced and mixed by Marty Felton and Benjamin Wade. So far
testimonials include:

“MISS have dived head-first into the realms of alternative
rock/electronic avant-garde and produced some dazzling results” Pure M

“MISS take you on an exhilarating and unexpected journey… There is
no doubt MISS have entered the music industry with a smash” Gigslutz

Becoming a trio for live shows, the boys’ hunger and energy is
unrivalled and that translates to their live shows. Extremely prolific
and itching to get back in the studio with an album’s worth of
material as well as two other forthcoming releases, MISS will be
gigging throughout spring and summer before returning to the studio in
August 2016.
